The following video is one of the components of an installation I presented for the Photography BA (Hons) Degree Show at the London College of Communication in June 2014.
‘Mirari’ is a multi-media installation, drawing upon notions of the mirage and the ‘exotic hyper-real’; critically observing the subtle distinctions between perception and reality in our contemporary digital image-saturated world.
We are taken on an explorative journey through ideas of the cliché and commodification of travel; directly challenging the relation between reality and ‘hyperreality’. When experiencing the installation, one is encouraged to dwell and immerse within the site, observing the various mediums and interacting with the work in both its totality and as individual parts.
‘Mirari’ suspends disbelief and reflects on our simultaneous longing and inability to attain this idealised vision of the paradisiacal exotic.
