These diptych portraits are the result of a collaboration between Berlin based artists Claudia Hill, Brazilian shaman Asi Rua and myself. We organised two evenings in Claudia's studio in Berlin Mitte, where we invited participants to join us in an immersive experience which involved a Rapé ceremony on the second evening. During which I attempted to capture the "before" and "after" states of the ritual with each participant.

Below is the press release for the events:

The Rite of Fall

Two evenings of art, healing & music

27/09 & 28/09 2019

7pm (doors open at 6.30pm)

Choriner St. 85, 10119, Berlin

Brought to you by Claudia Hill (cross disciplinary artist, Berlin), Asi Rua (medicine woman, Brazil) & Charlotte J Ward (photographer, UK). And joined by Stefan Rusconi on Friday night & Marc Lohr on Saturday night - two Berlin based musicians who will be sharing their sound studies with us throughout these two nights.

Stemming from a dialogue which began between us earlier this year, as part of Claudia’s ongoing project of the ‘Travelling Poncho’, which Asi Rua and Charlotte brought to Brazil and to the Amazon rainforest; we are happy to share with you a piece of this adventure during these two nights in Claudia’s studio.

27/09 - Chakra sessions

A gentle and sensory experience, inviting you to relax and receive whilst Claudia Hill uses objects, temperatures, scents, sounds, light and touch to sooth your chakras.

Accompanied by native chants from the Amazon rainforest sung by Asi Rua and Charlotte, and Stefan Rusconi’s live sound creations.

28/09 - Rapé circle

A sacred medicine from the Amazon rainforest, which has been used for centuries by many tribes, will be offered to you by Asi Rua, bringing you connection, protection and healing. Throughout the evening, Charlotte J Ward will be creating portrait diptychs in an attempt to capture the "before" and "after" Rapé ritual with each person willing to take part. This will be accompanied by Marc Lohr’s live sound creations.
